UPDATE: The next Talent Brand Summit is March 8-10, 2022 in Austin, Texas. Request your ticket.

You’re an employer brand professional. You love what you do.

But – what’s the next step for you?

For those of us in the wonderful world of employer brand and recruitment marketing, knowing those next steps can be difficult. What have been the main things that have helped you achieve more, hit those targets, get that promotion?

Was it a stretch assignment? Was it personal development and learning? Was it attendance at industry-specific workshops and conferences where you built connections and learned from your peers?

For me, the difference between success and failure has been my bosses and mentors. They’ve understood that they don’t know everything and had the ability to ask the right questions, so I know how to share the information that matters. Not to mention giving me the freedom and autonomy to try new things, and discover what employer branding means for that specific company.

Because that’s the thing – employer brand is different for every single company.

A GOOD BOSS KNOWS WHAT WILL HELP YOU GROW YOUR SKILLS AND ADVANCE YOUR CAREER

The best bosses know enough to ask you what you actually want to achieve. More importantly, they will help you pursue it. Which brings us to the ever-elusive and varied talent brand career path.

It’s a hybrid of marketing/branding and recruiting/HR roles, so the career paths available are everything from an individual contributing marketer, to resourcing leader, to demand generation and branding executive. But that’s if you can tell a good story about what you’ve achieved.

Most bosses don’t understand it (most think they do), let alone know how to manage it or measure its success. You might think you can’t sell, but this is one role where many of us find ourselves selling what we do, and the value of it to our companies more than once. We know the value good employer branding brings to our organisations. We know how to report on it  - the more information and data you can provide for your leader, the easier it becomes to measure the outcomes. Once you have those, it’s amazingly easier to ask for budget €£$ and additional headcount.

SO WHY THE TALENT BRAND SUMMIT?

Have you ever walked into a group and felt like you just belonged? Where you don’t have to explain what you do because the person you are talking to just gets it? Where you’re in a room full of peers, some in the industry for longer, some for less but all full of ideas, advice, and guidance?

Sound too good to be true? That’s where #TBSUMMIT comes in.

This isn’t just a normal, digital event. This is an event where you will get so much out of it, at the event, and in the future. Whether it’s in person or virtual, it’s an event worth going to. Virtual for us means connecting to more people around the world – and it makes our event even more special. It’s an interactive workshop – one where you have to get involved.

You won’t sit in silence listening to a speaker. You’ll be having a discussion with the speaker, with people in your virtual room, chatting through different topics.. and have a little fun along the way too.

You will meet people who do almost exactly what you do and who face many of the same challenges in companies across different industries and countries. It’s a place where the authors of those books you read, those heavyweights in the industry, are people sitting opposite yourself, having a conversation.

You learn, you grow and you develop. You build a network of people across the world that you connect with, that you can talk to and learn from.

For your boss, going to this event doesn’t just mean an opportunity for you to grow – you can take everything you learn and bring it to your organisation. It will be incredibly beneficial for your career as well as your day job.

Time to command-C then command-V

We thought we’d put together an email template to help explain it to your amazing boss so you can request the time off, and get them to invest not just in your career but in your future with your company.

You’ll want to wordsmith this a bit to make sure it sounds like something you’d write. Or you could simply share this blog post with them—your call.

Hi BEST BOSS EVER,

I’m really excited to have finally found an employer branding interactive workshop that I think will help us both achieve what we’ve been talking about!

The other companies attending—Twitter, Appian, Baxter, Squarespace, T-mobile, to name a few—face many of the same challenges we do. They’re also learning about how to effectively tell stories about their employee experience and values.  There will be one-person employer brand teams attending as well as larger organisations that I can also learn from.

If you look at the agenda, you can see the topics are relevant directly to what we’re trying to accomplish:

  • Creating equitable content. In extraordinary times, extraordinary solutions are needed. Employer branding isn’t just about recruitment – its about a candidate’s and employee’s experience all year long.

  • Employee advocacy. Your personal brand, being a social media advocate, being able to tell a story is all really important to our overall employer brand.

  • Employer Brand myth busting. How do you filter out the noise when it comes to all the thought leaders, the facts, the white papers? We will understand what the silver bullets are and be able to remove some of those misconceptions and mysteries about what employer brand is.

  • Tech & Tools. There are so many tools out there to help scale talent brand initiatives but which ones are perfect for our candidate journey? It’s time to learn from the crowd.

  • Stakeholder relationship management. How do we build the right connections in our business? Knowing who the right people are in an organisation can help us get things done.

  • Creating a culture of storytelling. Does your leadership and people team understand the value of story for engagement? Whether internal communications or external marketing, it all starts with a good story.

I won’t just be staring at presenters, listening to them talk about how brilliant they are. I’ll actually be in interactive workshops learning from all the other attendees, including people who’ve been matched with me based on our company’s specific challenges. The best part is that I’ll be able to follow up with any of them directly whenever we need advice and perspective on our projects.

If that isn’t enough, they’re providing detailed notes and resources from the event, so I will have a great starting point when I return. I’ll also have fresh insights to share with the team.

There is a catch, though.

They only allow 150 people to attend this event, so it will sell out. But I do have a 25% discount code to save us some money! Can we talk?

 Thanks,
